Board of Trustees

Friends of Serve Afghanistan is governed by a three-member volunteer governance board.

The three board members bring with them essential skills and expertise to ensure strong governance & oversight of Friends of Serve Afghanistan.

Friends of Serve Afghanistan’s officers are experienced development professionals. Its secretary/administrator is an experienced and respected INGO professional who has managed development programs in Asia, Africa, and the Caribbean. The board’s treasurer, currently the Director of a renewable energy company, has held Finance Director roles within several INGOs. The chair of the board has long-term experience in Afghanistan and, at present, represents a major North American NGO in Afghanistan.

The primary responsibilities of Friends of Serve Afghanistan’s board of trustees are:

  • Accountability – ensuring Friends of Serve Afghanistan operates transparently.
  • Funding – soliciting and receiving donations in support of Serve Afghanistan’s programs.
  • Policies – to maintain a legal framework within which Friends of Serve Afghanistan can issue IRS tax receipts to US donors and efficiently transfer donations received to Serve Afghanistan programs – either in cash or in kind – in accordance with US and international laws.
  • Monitoring – ensuring that donations made to Serve Afghanistan support the work intended by the donor, are consistent with US laws and regulations, and truly support the vision, mission, and goals of Serve Afghanistan.

NOTE: Serve Afghanistan is governed by an entirely separate, international board. Neither Serve Afghanistan nor Friends of Serve Afghanistan is subordinate to or controlled by the other. They are distinct organizations, one registered in Great Britain, the other in the United States.
